New Hubble Pictures

September 9, 2009

Hubble was serviced in May of this year. Astronauts replaced old camera with a better new one. Also they repaired some old equipment. Since then Hubble crew was testing and calibrating new devices and finally we have new stunning pictures! Gravitational lenses (light bends affected by massive galaxies), colliding galaxies and exploding stars — all those goodies just one click away :-) As usual Hubble is unbeatable in delivering astronomy pictures, enjoy:

I am speechless — that’s what today’s cutting edge technology can bring us.

Most Famous Hubble Pictures

June 21, 2009

I came across this absolutely must see video about most iconic Hubble pictures. Hubble definitely gave us the most beautiful astronomy images. The only downside of this project is cost. Somewhere I heard that there were more money spent on Hubble mission than required to built all the telescopes on Earth. I don’t know if it’s really so, but at least it gives you an idea of why do we still bother with telescopes on the ground :-) Enjoy the beauty:

I personally like the planet pictures (they are so close to us, we even fly there!) and deep space photos. Deep space with all the countless galaxies make me feel so tiny in this Universe, reminds that a broken car or elections in United States are definitely not the most important problems in the world.
